Backsplash tile that holds up in a GTA kitchen
A backsplash takes more abuse than people think. Grease splatter, steam, the occasional pot bump. In older Burlington homes it also has to deal with walls that aren't perfectly square, which changes how we lay things out.
Dry layout first
We lay tile out dry before any adhesive goes down. That's how we catch an out-of-level counter or a wall that's a half-inch off square before it becomes your problem.
Grout that fits the room
Epoxy grout for behind the stove and sink where grease and moisture hit hardest, standard sanded or unsanded elsewhere depending on joint width.
Outlet and switch cutouts
Clean cuts around outlets and switches, no chipped edges hiding behind a cover plate.
Slab backsplashes
Quartz or porcelain slab backsplashes need proper substrate and support, especially on older plaster walls. We check that before we order the slab, not after it arrives.

Uneven tile lines from a rushed job
Nothing gives away a rushed tile job faster than grout lines that drift, or a pattern that doesn't centre on your range. Once it's set, fixing it means tearing it back out.
We plan the layout before we mix any thinset
We find the centre line of your focal wall, usually the range or the sink, and work outward from there. Cuts land at the edges where they're least noticeable, not smack in the middle of your view.
How we handle a backsplash job
Same four steps whether it's forty square feet or a full wall.
- 1
Measure and material pick
We measure the space and help you settle on tile size, pattern, and grout colour based on your counters and cabinets.
- 2
Surface prep
Old backsplash comes off if there is one, wall gets cleaned and patched so the new tile has a flat surface to bond to.
- 3
Dry layout and set
We dry-fit the pattern, mark our lines, then set the tile with the right thinset for the material.
- 4
Grout, seal, clean
Grout goes in once the tile's cured, then we seal where needed and clean the whole surface so it's ready to use.

Backsplash and tile questions
How long does a backsplash installation take?
A standard backsplash usually takes one to two days including grout cure time. Larger feature walls or slab installs can take longer.
Can you tile over my existing backsplash?
Usually no, we prefer to remove the old backsplash so the new tile bonds directly to a clean, flat wall. Tiling over tile can trap moisture and cause problems later.
What's the difference between subway tile and slab backsplashes?
Subway and mosaic tile give you grout lines and a classic look at a lower material cost. Slab backsplashes are a single continuous piece, no grout lines, higher material cost but a cleaner look.
Do you match the backsplash to my existing counters?
Yes, we bring samples to your kitchen so you can see the tile against your actual counter and cabinets before ordering.
Do you serve areas outside Burlington?
Yes, we do backsplash and tile work across the GTA, not just Burlington.
